Teaching Vonnegut | "In Nonsense is Strength"
In preparation for my upcoming Teaching Vonnegut workshop with the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, I took to the internet and books to find some of Kurt Vonnegut's thoughts on comic books and cartooning and perhaps my favorite discovery is in a 1974 issue of Superman!
It's definitely a lampoon of Kurt Vonnegut's Kilgore Trout. In the comic Clark Kent meets "Wade Halibut" who is working on his next book, "The Mermaids of Icarus" and ultimately tries a scheme to have Clark Kent help him with his writer's block.
Below are the full 6 pages and I have 2 copies of the books on the way I’ll make available for checkout from my studio later this month.
And also, if you enjoyed this, you definitely must see the Teaching Vonnegut workshops, including my workshop “In Nonsense is Strength” about visual literacy, comic books, and Kurt Vonnegut, which are all offered by the Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library. I got a little preview today and lots of great topics and instructors, all virtual powered by Zoom, and discounts if you're a student or taking more than one workshop!
